I have been getting recurrent access forbidden-type error messages (for example, code 0X800CCC33) when using Outlook Express 5.5 and Hotmail to send or receive email. Can you suggest a fix please?
Reading between the lines of the Microsoft Knowledgebase article that deals with this error, we would surmise that there is a problem between Outlook Express and Hotmail that is unresolved. Hotmail is primarily a web-based mail server and it is not accessed using standard internet mail protocols.
Microsoft recommends checking that your Hotmail username and password are correct in Outlook Express. Click on Tools, Accounts and select the Mail tab. Choose your Hotmail account, click Properties and select the Server tab. Under Mail Server, verify that the name and password are correct and that the 'Remember password' checkbox is checked. If that doesn't work, Microsoft says, use your web browser to access your mail at www.hotmail.com.
